The Toronto-Cincinnati-based company provides talent acquisition teams with powerful tools that help them discover the value in existing talent networks, identify skill gaps, and source top candidates in a fraction of the time.
While conversing with the CIO Applications' editorial team, Stephen Shefsky, the Co-Founder and CEO of tilr, shared his insights on how the organization leverages its technical expertise to provide a robust talent intelligence solution for companies of all sizes.
Could you give us a brief overview of tilr?
Founded in 2015, tilr was the result of our passion for simplifying and optimizing talent acquisition and management. Identifying that it can be achieved only by a robust solution, we built the first version of our algorithmic platform in 2016 to help bridge the gap between forward-thinking companies and job seekers. We were primarily focused on assisting gig workers, part-time employees, and independent contractors. But, with innovation embedded in our corporate DNA, we’ve made significant advancements to our algorithm to align with the changing dynamics in the job market. Our most recent transition occurred in 2020, where we’ve redefined our technology to include full-time workers in our portfolio.
Organizations can leverage tilr’s skills inference technology to gain quick access to a growing, qualified worker pool and find the right talent based on skills, location, and desired career path
tilr was recognized as a leading talent acquisition platform that serves a wide customer base that encompasses over 400 prominent companies, primarily from Ohio and Kentucky. According to Shefsky, “our solution allows organizations to source, attract, and acquire new talents that suit their requirements while enabling jobseekers to find the right job. Our early track record of mapping over one million skills, creating 175,000 hours of work, and making over 100,000 job matches is a testimonial to the potential of our robust technology.”
Could you elaborate more on the tilr platform?
tilr is a robust, easy-to-use AI-powered talent intelligence platform that helps organizations streamline and automate their recruitment operations. Designed to create seamless connections between job seekers and companies, our solution eliminates the need for resumesin the hiring process. What gives tilr an edge over the competition is its ability to emphasize skills over job titles. The platform converts both job descriptions and resumes into skills and matches them to help organizations find the right talent and maximize the long-term potential of their workforce.
When it comes to jobseekers, tilr provides them an opportunity to find jobs they are qualified for within their geographic vicinity. Unlike a typical talent acquisition firm that relies on resume database and keyword search technology, we allow job seekers to match their skills with the best job description which is also converted to skills. The platform allows employers to post jobs, find the best match, and conduct virtual interviews that can be scheduled via the platform, and hire talent remotely.

What are some of the factors that differentiate tilr from the rest?
We pride ourselves on being one of the early adopters of mobile technology. It adds value to clients' recruiting operations and even benefits job seekers in today’s post-pandemic world as they can have seamless access to our platform from anywhere, anytime. The ever-growing database is another factor that makes us unique. Today, we have more than three million jobs entering our system daily and have access to a database that encompasses the information of over 65 million people.
We now have the ability to map skills anywhere from within a zip code, county, or state against the jobs offered, differentiates us from the competition. This way, we’re able to direct companies to the region that holds the skills they want.
Could you provide us with a case study that exemplifies tilr’s value proposition?
Our recent integration with a company that was struggling to find and hire 10 employees for a Cincinnati-based company is a good example. By relying their old ATS, they had received several hundreds of resumes from various sources. But, they were not able to access the talent they wanted to hire. tilr was able to integrate with their ATS and convert them to skills and match to the corresponding job descriptions that were also converted to skills. This way, we made matches out of their internal talent network and helped them hire people who were the best fit for their job positions. Their old technology would not have given their HR department a clear picture of the skills already resident in their ATS talent network database. Moreover, they asked us to help them hire an additional 20 people for their offices in the Phoenix area.
What does the future hold for tilr?
As an agile firm, we’re always focused on enhancing the capabilities of our solution and coming up with new, value-added offerings to better serve our clients. Moving ahead, we have several upgrades to our technology that we are currently working on that we will launch in the next quarter. We are also planning to integrate with additional ATS platforms.
tilr is poised to become a one-stop-shop talent acquisition solution for businesses ina wide range of industries. As an industry-agnostic solution, tilr successfully serves the HR recruitment needs organizations, regardless of their industry vertical.
